Windows 10 May 2021 update released to Public
The first major update to Windows 10 of the year 2021, called the May 2021 update is available for everyone starting 18th May. Originally Announced in February, In a Blog Post by Microsoft, the team explained in detail the new features and the availability information.
The Windows 10 May 2021 update is a minor update compared to previous releases and shares the same code as version 2004 and 20H2. Microsoft is making available this minor update because companies continue to work remotely due to Covid 19 Pandemic.
Initial availability
Initially, Microsoft is making available the May 2021 update to only selected devices as usual. A staggered rollout means, Microsoft can quickly identify issues if there, and fix those if required. Eligible devices would see a prompt in the Windows update section about downloading. If you choose it to download and install, it would take the same amount of time as a monthly update.
New features with Windows 10 May 2021 update
The Windows 10 21H1 update is a minor update, and brings a handful number of new features, listed below:
- Support for Multi Windows Hello Supported Cameras.
- Windows Defender Application Guard performance improvements including optimizing document opening scenario times.
- Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Group Policy Service (GPSVC) updating performance improvement to support remote work scenarios.
